This is one of the most exciting wrecks on the island to dive and is a fantastic piece of history.<\/p>\n

“Peta Knott, Coastal Marine Archaeologist for Wessex Archaeology, said: “This is the only\u00a0 protected paddle steamer lying in British waters and divers on this new trail will be able to see the remains of the ferry’s engines, boilers, and components of the paddle wheels which are still visible on the seabed. We have had great support from the diving community in developing this trail and look forward to working with them in the ongoing preservation of the wreck.””<\/em><\/p>\n

Obtaining a Licence<\/h3>\n

It is not hard to get a licence to dive the wreck and it is free<\/strong>! Given how interesting this wreck is it is a must to do on any trip to the island.<\/p>\n

The licence can either be obtained by diving with a charter vessel, applying to Historic England, or asking the Warden nicely. We have opted for the latter in recent attempts to get to the island and the Warden was very happy for us to dive under their licence.<\/p>\n
