Ready to take your diving to the next level?
Sports diver is the next step for divers already qualified to BSAC Ocean Diver or equivalent. The course is also open to PADI Open Water or equivalent divers. It’s a very rewarding qualification and will undoubtedly make you a more confident diver! If you’re currently doing Ocean Diver this year, you are also very welcome to join the Sports Diver course!

Costs

• £55 from BSAC Ocean Diver
• £65 from PADI Open Water or an equivalent non-BSAC qualification

Schedule: First Lecture on 30th January
Our sports diver training course begins Tuesday the 30th Jan. with a theory lesson held in Queens, room 1.69 at 6:30pm. Our diving officer, Chris Bainbridge, will be introducing everyone to UBUC and the sports diver qualification, teaching you the first of four theory lessons designed to build on dive skills you have gained from other organisations. Each lesson will be held on the following dates:

• Tuesday 30th Jan
• Tuesday 6th Feb
• Tuesday 13th Feb
• Tuesday 20th Feb

Time: 6:30pm

There will also be swimming pool lessons and open water lessons designed to teach you techniques such as compass navigation, frog kicking, rescue breaths, controlled buoyant lifts and surface marker buoy deployment. Open water lessons will be conducted in Porthkerris, Cornwall between Friday 23rd and Thursday 29th March. Please keep these dates free and be aware that there will be an extra charge for the trip. More detail will be available closer to the time.

Before practising these skills in the ocean, we teach you how to do them in the safety of our University swimming pool. These swimming pool lessons will be held on Saturday evenings in February. We require everyone to attend at least two sessions on the dates below. However, if you haven’t dived in more than a year, you may need to refresh your skills in a third lesson. A sign up sheet will be emailed to all trainees shortly after the first theory lesson.
